SDG Young Leaders Network meet-up on ‘Financing the energy transition’

Global Compact Netherlands’ SDG Young Leaders Network meet-up on ‘Financing the energy transition’

On Monday 30 May between 16.00 and 18.30 the SDG Young Leaders Network, the young professionals network under the flag of Global Compact Netherlands, is organising its first physical meet-up! The offices of Unilever in Rotterdam will be the scene for a content-packed event on one of the biggest sustainability-related challenges of our time: the much-needed transition to a new energy system.

To get in line with the goals of the Paris agreement, an urgent and rapid shift from our fossil-based systems of energy production and consumption – including oil, natural gas and goal – to renewable energy sources like wind and solar, is much-needed. This transition requires a significant amount of financing. The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) estimates energy transition technologies will need investments of around USD 131 trillion by 2050 in order to give us a shot at successfully transitioning our energy system.

Luckily, a large number of parties – ranging from public to private sector – are stepping up to make this financing possible. During the meet-up, representatives from such organizations will be sharing how they are each contributing to financing the energy transition, and what challenges and opportunities they encounter along the way. After, there will be the opportunity to discuss and connect over drinks with the speakers and other young professionals.

Please join us to get the most up-to-date insights on one of the most important sustainability-challenges of our time, and connect with a wide range of young professionals from organizations like Unilever, Philips, Climate Neutral Group, Incleaders and many more, by signing up for our meet-up here.
