Human Rights: Preparing Business for What is to Come

About this event

2021 marks the 10th anniversary of the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights: the first corporate human rights responsibility initiative to be endorsed by the UN. The decade that followed the launch of the Guiding Principles in 2011 saw various standards and guidelines integrate and further translate the corporate responsibility to respect human rights into practical implementation support, such as the OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Business. Furthermore, ten years on, various governments across the globe and in particular within Europe have issued laws and regulations in relation to the corporate responsibility to respect human rights, yet many companies are still uncertain where to start when it comes to tackling human rights.

Please join us for this one hour introductory webinar on the corporate responsibility to respect human rights, organised by the Global Compact Network Netherlands with the support of KPMG. The webinar will set the scene on business and human rights for all those that are (fairly) new to the topic, explore the current regulatory environment within Europe (and beyond), and welcome a guest speaker – Lotte Mastwijk, Manager Communications & Sustainability at LC Packaging International – to share how human rights intersect with their business in order to make it tangible.

Participants will leave the webinar equipped with a basic understanding of the regulatory human rights landscape and why the time to act is now – supported by a number of reference materials to explore the topic further.

This webinar is part of a series of events and support activities that the Global Compact Netherlands organises throughout 2021. The full programme of the webinar will be confirmed soon. The webinar will be hosted via Microsoft Teams.
