Events

Hosted by the UN Global Compact, together with UN Environment Programme and UN Climate Change, the in-person meeting will bring together senior executives of business, industry, finance, civil society, the United Nations and Government to help accelerate immediate cuts to greenhouse gas emissions and act decisively to avert a climate catastrophe. The gathering aims to bring forward a strong business message of climate ambition and help to scale and speed climate action in light of the completion of the first Global Stocktake.

All participants of the UN Global Compact Network Netherlands are invited to participate in the General Assembly. This important meeting will take place on Wednesday, December 6 at the Head Office of NN Group N.V. located at Prinses Beatrixlaan 35, The Hague from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM CET (including networking drinks).

During the General Assembly, we will present the results achieved in 2023 and our priorities for 2024, organize breakout sessions on important topics, and listen to inspiring speakers.

Keynote Speaker

We are honored to be joined by an inspirational speaker Gerbrand Haverkamp, who is the Executive Director at the World Benchmarking Alliance.

In his speech, Gerbrand will focus on the topic of Corporate Accountability (covered in detail in WBA’s recently published whitepaper) and will dive into:
– The correlation between the UN Global Compact participation and scores in the WBA benchmark.
– The importance of corporate accountability in reaching the SDG goals.
– The ability of different stakeholders to hold companies accountable.
– Possible pathways for strengthening the corporate accountability process.

About the event
The regulatory frameworks governing corporate actions in the context of sustainability and corporate responsibility issues are rapidly evolving. After a long period mainly shaped by industry self-regulation, companies now face comprehensive expectations, detailed both in soft law standards and – increasingly – hard law. Examples include the ongoing revision of the EU’s Non-financial Reporting Directive, the upcoming EU Directive on Corporate Due Diligence and Corporate Accountability, and the new Task Force for Nature-related Financial Disclosures.

The Global Compact Network Switzerland & Liechtenstein has formed a collaboration with ECOFACT AG and other Global Compact Local Networks to support its members in responding to regulatory change related to sustainability and corporate responsibility.

UN Global Compact participants will have access to quarterly webinars in which they will be briefed on recent regulatory developments. This will provide information on the actions that are expected from them today, and in the near future.
